1831, Cherokee Nation v. Georgia --> court refused to hear the case, ruling that they were not a sovereign nation.

1832, Worcester v. Georgia --> Chief Justice John Marshall ruled that the Cherokee Nation was sovereign. Removal laws were no longer valid and the only way Georgia could get Cherokee land was through a treaty.
