My Work

As a print journalist segueing into being a University of Florida doctoral student, I am interested in studying the effect new media convergence has on newsroom culture.

I have worked as a reporter for several newspapers throughout Florida, including The Orlando Sentinel, Treasure Coast Newspapers, and Naples Daily News.

I received my master's degree in community journalism from the University of Alabama through the Knight Foundation Community Journalism Program. I developed new media skills, including creating slide shows, Web videos, and I learned how to work with content management systems. I put those skills to work through an internship at WashingtonPost.com's Loudoun Extra, creating multimedia packages for their online edition.

I teach Writing & Reporting for Online Media and Writing for Mass Communication. My hope is to conduct research and teach new media, skills, and theoretical courses at a university. I plan on graduating with my Ph.D. in August 2011.

My Life

My husband, Jeremy, and I were married in 2007. He works as the health reporter for the Florida Times-Union. We are new parents to our daughter Charlie Madeline, who is the most beautiful girl in the world. We live in Jacksonville, Fla., with our two dachshunds, Oscar and Nacho.

I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and went to high school in Raleigh, N.C. I got my undergraduate degrees in journalism and public relations from Appalachian State University in 2002, and I am still a rapid Applalachian State football fan to this day.

I enjoy playing and watching sports, especially tennis, volleyball, baseball, and football. I also enjoy traveling, running, reading, writing, and spending time with my wonderful family.
