OVERVIEW
FATHER GOOSE Cary Grant stars in one of his funniest roles as a boozy beachcomber sitting out WWII in peace - until the Allies recruit him to be a lookout on the South Pacific Isle. During an enemy attack, he answers a distress call and discovers a beautiful French schoolmarm (Leslie Caron) and her 7 girl students. And so begins a hilarious battle of the sexes between a messy American, a prim Mademoiselle and 7 mischievous little girls. Who will win is anybody's guess, but you can be sure that Father Goose delivers plenty of romantic fun and adventure along the way.
THE GRASS IS GREENER When American millionaire Charles Delacro (Robert Mitchum) stumbles into the private quarters of Victor (Cary Grant) and Hilary (Deborah Kerr), an English aristocratic couple who allow public tours through their stately mansion, he brings a whirlwind of trouble with him. Hilary’s dissatisfaction with her staid life plus verbal sparring with Charles about Anglo-American differences spark a romance between the two, easily perceived by Hilary’s husband, Victor. When Hilary goes to London to meet Charles secretly, an old flame of Victor’s visits to give him advice on his disintegrating marriage and to perhaps seduce him too. Victor’s solution? Invite his wife’s lover up for the weekend to engage in some fishing and a duel. Woven together with a wide streak of humor is a wonderful, surprisingly rich and blunt scrutiny of marital troubles and endurance. A surprisingly sensitive yet humorous look at the marital troubles of Victor and Hilary, THE GRASS IS GREENER follows the tale of Hilary’s falling in love with an American millionaire who woos her to London while her perceptive husband, Victor, weaves his own plans to convince Hilary to return to him without the fuss that could terminally damage their marriage. The gossip that his wife’s lover bought her a fur coat, which Victor had been scrimping for for years, sends him over the edge, leading him to challenge the millionaire to a duel. The film was based on the play by Hugh and Margaret Williams. Christian Dior designed Simmons's clothes; Hardy Amies designed Kerr's.
INDISCREET Wealthy American Philip (Cary Grant) and famous actress Anne (Ingrid Bergman) meet just as Anne insists that all the best men have already been taken. Though Philip is taken, Anne can't resist their instant attraction and electricity. An unexpected secret Philip hides from his new love threatens to spoil everything.
OPERATION PETTICOAT Cary Grant and Tony Curtis star as naval officers in this service comedy, one of the director's favorite genres. When Adm. Matt Sherman's (Grant) submarine, the Sea Tiger, is damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, he needs to find spare parts to have it recommissioned.
THAT TOUCH OF MINK Two of Hollywood's most beloved stars, Cary Grant and Doris Day sparkle in a breeze stylish comedy that is rich with romantic delights. Love arrives with a splash when a handsome and eligible tycoon (Grant) and a beautiful working woman (Day) meet over a curbside mud puddle. He is enchanted by her small town ways; she's captivated by his romantic, debonair manner. But when it comes to marriage, they have decidedly different views--she wants it and he doesn't! What ensues is a game of cat-and-mouse as each tries to win the other - with hilarious and heartwarming results.
