Welcome to my page de Mexico.
Once we were through the hectic mexican customs, where two girls got in a spitting fight and were almost refused entry into the country, and we had pressed the magic button to decide whether they would search us or not (if the light turned red you got searched, green you go), we got on the bus to go to our hotel. Right away, some little mexicans started selling us beer through the bus windows.
Our hotel, the Oasis Cancun, was sweet. We had a room at the end of the hall. Joel had brought a portable discman and his computer speakers so we were one of the only rooms with a stereo hookup. One of the travel packages we bought was the culture package. It included a day *trip* to Chichen Itza, the Mayan ruins. We climbed the huge pyramid and also went inside the sucker.
One of the days (time during this vacation didn't exist, or it was wiped from my memory but mass amounts of alcohol) we went to the Isla de Mujeres (i think) which is the Island of Women. We saw a guy named Porky wrestle a white shark.
At some moment in time we visited the open air market deep in Cancun City, away from the tourist trap. Tim haggled with a poor mexican for a very long time. He ended up getting a leather jacket he didn't really want and also two hammocks, all for a quarter of the original price of the jacket. He made the poor mexican almost cry, and other mexicans tried to buy some of the things from us.
Here's a pic of Tim in his new outfit.
Most every day of the week we spent there, we enjoyed happy hour at the Captain's Cove bar. With drinks at about 8 pesos or one dollar, we ran up a $50 bar bill one day. Our last day there, we got our waitress, that we got to know pretty well through the week, to take a picture of the four of us. It's the only picture of all four of us.
