Navigating University of Florida Dorms
My Guide to the Best Dorms at UF
Dealing with the UF Housing Portal can be tricky. Surpisingly, if you are even slightly considering attending UF you will need to apply to live in UF dorms and reserve your spot in line before you even submit your actual application to University of Florida. Since I am from Georgia I was completely unaware of how early I needed to apply for uf housing. I had always pictured myself living in a standard double dorm room like all of my other friends attending other universities. Nope. Not the case. Since I applied for housing as soon as I submitted my application, I was stuck deciding between a double in Graham Hall with no air conditioning or a triple in Broward Hall with air conditioning. There was no way I was going to survive hot and humid Gainesville, FL with no air conditioning so I went with a triple in Broward.
Little did I know... I could have avoided this whole situation by looking into UF luxury dorms like Windsor Hall and Ivy House. I was pretty out of the loop on what to do as a freshman since I was from out-of-state but once I joined a sorority I realized that the majority of my friends lived in Ivy House and Windsor Hall because they were super close to sorority row and not far from classes. I used to hang out in my friend's dorm at Windsor Hall all the time because she had a nice clean bathroom to herself (unlike my community bathroom at the hall that I shared with several other girls). She also had a convenient little kitchenette attached to her room which was definitely a plus. I remember spending a lot of time laying out at the pool at Windsor with my friends. As you can see if I could go back I would have definitely avoided the UF Housing Portal and on campus dorms completely and lived in Windsor Hall.
My cramped Broward dorm- I had to have a bed rail because I was scared of falling off the top bunk!
Now this Windsor Hall double is what I had always pictured my dorm room to look like, the pool is definitely a plus
Things I Can Do
I've learned a few things in the past four years as a Marketing major at the University of Florida.
