AMH 3558, American Legal History

Course description:

This course considers the way law in the United States developed from the point of European settlement to the present. It pays particular attention to the development, and changes, in common law, and includes examination of the criminal law, property law, and the law of torts (or personal harms). The course examines the way those areas of law changed over time, and what social or economic or political shifts influenced those changes. In addition, the course will consider whether, and how, changes in the law led to changes in society.
