MEAN
MEAN

1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 12

These are the number of pizza slices  requested by the first 6 customers.

How many more slices will I need if 3 more customers are coming in?

If everyone asks for the same amount, how much would they ask for?

Here, you would find the traditional "average" by adding up all the numbers, then dividing by the number of items in the set.

This gives the MEAN: the value of the items if they all had been the SAME.

1 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 5 + 12 = 24            24 / 6 = 4

The MEAN is 4, and for 3 more people, I should have about 12 slices ready.
