This service-learning course is very skills-based. In addition to learning some basic information about conference planning, we will apply those skills to planning and running the Florida Communication Association’s (FCA) October 2008 conference, to be held here Gainesville, Florida, at the Paramount Plaza Hotel and Conference Center. We will learn some basic group and organizational communication theory, have several guest speakers, and organize the conference, plus do publicity. The FCA conference is Oct. 16-18 (Thursday evening through Saturday after lunch). You will work at the conference helping at the registration desk, the local arrangements desk, and help with A-V set-up and take down, just to name a few tasks. You will also have free time to attend any of the conference sessions as well as join us for lunch. After the conference is over, there will be a week of wrap-up course work, and by the end of October, the course will be finished for the semester.
