This provides for a loan of an IBM 3270 PC for use in instruction, research and service activities and for staff lessons on the use of the equipment. The 3270 PC permits four concurrent interactive-host sessions, two notes, and PC sessions at the same time. 1975-1979 National Endowment for the Humanities. Co-principal Investigator with Professor Sheldon Isenberg, Department of Religion, University of Florida. This grant supported a two-day conference on energy and human values for seventy participants from Florida's industries and the University of Florida's business and humanities faculties. COMPUTER SOFTWARE EasyK The current version of KERMIT, a public-domain communications protocol software package for microcomputers, is used as the basis for this easy to use version of KERMIT which runs under MS/DOS. It provides the user with easily modified "scripts" that permit dialing up and signing into other micro or mainframe systems, including any start-up commands desired for various systems. Once installed, the user sees a series of pictures and flow charts that shows what various scripted commands will do and where it will place user control, e.g., at a manual dial-up location or in the UF's computerized card catalog system. Another series of flow charts show users how to toggle to and from DOS while connected to another computer, copy screens to DOS files, and log the other computer session to a local DOS file. Variations of the original accessing VTAM services on IBM mainframes have been written to access the UF's IFAS, CIRCA, and UFNet systems and to access FSU's Cyber and supercomputer front end. Permission was given to Georges Mayer, Communication Engineer, Technion Computer Center, Haifa, Israel, to translate the entire software to Hebrew for distribution to students, faculty and staff at Haifa. PRICEMOD The average costs for any set of mainframe services are given by this model based on an extension of cost accounting methodology for discrete services in a mass-production environment characterized by many common costs. It permits users to specify the services to be priced and costed in an IBM-architecture mainframe computing center running VM/CMS, MVS, or DOS. The model includes an algorithm for modifying prices with respect to demand trends so the aggregate revenues produced meet a target level. NERDCPRO Annual projections of revenues are given by this model for demands on the Northeast Regional Data Center's services on three main- frames with a $7 million budget. OLS estimates of demands, reflecting seasonality and structural changes, are based on over 136 months of historical data. The model is used to determine budgeted revenues, to aid decisions on pricing policy, and to evaluate the effects of price changes on the center's estimated financial results over six, twelve, twenty-four, and sixty months. IRASAIDS This is a routine data processing application developed for Ira Horowitz, past editor of Decision Sciences, the journal of the Decision Sciences Institute (originally, the American Institute of Decision Sciences), to keep track of manuscripts and reviewers. It presently takes up to 1,000 manuscripts and 1,006 reviewers and produces various types of detailed and summary information. It was transferred to Robert Markland, current editor, at the University of South Carolina, December 1983, where it was installed and put in full production January 1984. RAELP (With Thom Hodgson, North Carolina State). Costs related to the use of IBM's MPSX led to the development of this linear programming simplex algorithm. It runs free on the Northeast Regional Data Center in fast-batch mode, has free-format input, generates all required slacks, surplus, and "Big M" values, and takes up to 39 constraints with an augmented matrix of 97 columns. The program is included as a subroutine in NERDC's WATFIV language. It is also running on the UF's Center for Instruction and Research Computing Activity DEC 11/780 VAX and is used in QMB 3700.
