Click the OK box before exiting the Directory Server Properties window. And, you must exit completely out of Thunderbird and restart it for the directory server changes to be in effect on your e-mail session. You may use any name for A. This name will be in your Address Books list when you open Thunderbird and then click on Address Book. To use it, click on that name in the list, type the name of a person or their e-mail address in the top-right menu field, and press enter.
The "official" LDAP settings for the UF are in CNS's
Document 117 (last updated 12/02/07). If you have
problems with the settings in the above table, refer to it for
more recent updates. You may add additional LDAP sites,
for example, one or more of those shown in (2) below for U.S.
universities.
IMPORTANT CHANGE:
The LDAP open software site is at
The current public US LDAP servers list is at
As of this writing, there are about 100 U.S. university and servers
available to you on line, plus the National Institutes of Health
(NIH).
Example: The UMass e-mail address of John V. Lombardi, a past UF
President, can be found by clicking on "University of Massachusetts
(Amherst)" in the list given by (2) and entering lombardi in the
"Name" field. John V. is the sixth in the list of eight
addresses returned by the UMass LDAP server. To create a
LDAP directory entry in your mail client address book list for a
school in the list given by (2), you
will need to obtain detailed entries similar to those in the
table above for the UF from the IT staff individual at that school
responsible for maintaining their LDAP service.
If you have used the UF LDAP service in the past, you may have
used "dir.ufl.edu" as the Host Name (or LDAP Server name).
You should change "dir" to "ldap" because this
change will be required in the near future. After the
change is made, having "dir" in the name will result in search
failures. At present, both "ldap" and "dir" will work
successfully in the host name field.
After making the above change from "dir" to "ldap", remember to
click on OK in the Directory Server Properties window, exit
Thunderbird, and restart it for the change to be in effect.
