Install an update in Maya

Prepare to install an update

Before you install an update, ensure that you do the following:
  • Download an update using the Live Update window.
  • Close Maya 2013.
Note: Updates must be installed in the same location as Maya on your system.

Install an update on Windows

  1. Open the updates folder in your Maya 2013 preferences.
    By default, updates are downloaded to the following directory:

      Windows XP

    • \Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\maya\2013\updates
    • Windows Vista and Windows 7

    • \Users\<username>\Documents\maya\2013\updates
  2. Double-click the .msp file.

    The installation wizard appears.

  3. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

Install an update on Mac OS X

  1. Open the updates folder in your Maya 2013 preferences.
    By default, updates are downloaded to the following directory:
    • /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2013/updates
  2. Double click the .dmg.

    The disk image mounts on the desktop and a new finder window opens.

  3. Double click the .pkg file.

    The installation wizard appears.

  4. Follow the instructions in the installation wizard.

Install an update on Linux

Note: If the download is zipped, you must unzip it before you begin installation.
  1. Open the updates folder in your Maya 2013 preferences.
    By default, updates are downloaded to the following directory:
    • /Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2013/updates
  2. Open a shelf as a super user (using su-).
  3. Change to the directory where you downloaded your update.
  4. Enter the following command:
    • rpm -Uvh <name of update>.rpm
