  • Final Project Handout Download Here
  • We will use the word: sampling in a NEW way today. How analog signals become transformed or rather "Transduced" into digital signals for you and I to manipulate in sound editors is called Analog to Digital conversion. This is accomplished when a waveform is sampled at a given rate (44,100 times per second!) and converted to a series of digital numbers in a range usually from 32767 to -32768; a 16-bit representation 2^16=65536.
  • Today, we are going to go through sound editing, sampling, and manipulation in a Free program Audacity. You can download it for your personal computer for mac and pc Here
  • In Class: Download this Sample by right-clicking (ctrl+click) and select save target AS... and place in a new folder with your name on it.
  • Once this is finished downloading (not before), open up Audacity and go to file > open. You should now see a waveform and an array of editing options will be available to you including: cut/paste/copy, reverse, normalize, speed up/down, etc. These samples will then be exported to use in REASON's sampler for your project.
  • Finally: where will you go to download Free and public domain sounds? check these out (you will need to make an account for some of these - its o.k.:
  • You can find soundfiles at these Sites!: Free Sound Project, Free Sound Effects Archive, Polotical Speeches, Sample Net, and Find Sounds.
