Music to El Niño
Udo von Grabowiecki, Professor at the

Sports Institute of the University of Stuttgart , an

authority in body coordination and artistic

gymnastics and also a talented pianist and

composer of light and classical music, has

continued his work on several pieces that

musically illustrate the different phases of

El Niño. At the 2004 National Meeting of

Geography Teachers in Berlin ,

Von Grabowiecki offered a special lecture on

the phases of composing his symphonic poem

using images of the damages caused by

El Niño phenomenon as an example of using

music and pictures as teaching tools of

Geography (Grabowiecki).

The Berliner composer Götz Lemberg has

utilized various themes presented

in “El Niño in History” (University Presses

of Florida, 2001) and “El Niño macht

Geschichte” (Wissenschaftliche

Buchgesellschaft, 2005) for a symphonic

piece in which music is adapted to

special ambiences and light

conditions, to create moods and

stimulate the listener also visually. His

project is being supported by Radio

Bremen , the most avant-garde

broadcaster of modern music in

Germany , and by several art and

sciences sponsoring German

agencies. Music of El Niño
