Beware of the man of one book.
--Thomas Aquinas

I recently won a Graduate School Teaching Award for the 2008-2009 school year. Thanks to all my students for their positive evaluations and to my reviewers for their helpful suggestions and advice!

I am also a newly christened PhD candidate! I passed my quals on March 23rd and am really enjoying my dissertation work!

Over the summer of 2008, I authored the brochure for the “Pop-up, Spin, Pull, Fold: Toy Books from the Baldwin Library” exhibit at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature (September 2 - October 31, 2008). Also, during the Fall '07 semester, I worked with the Baldwin Library for Historical Children's Literature to help put on the Afterlife of Alice exhibit. I helped arrange a display case, wrote a short bio of Charles Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll), and handed out fliers dressed as Alice with the Mad Hatter and White Rabbit!

This READ poster is a part of the George A. Smathers Libraries' "@ your library®" campaign at the University of Florida. It is based on the Tea Party Reception held at the Baldwin Library for Historical Children's Literature in honor of the Afterlife of Alice exhibit.

Along with my passion for reading, I have several other interests. I collect autographed books and I'm an amateur poet; some of my work can be read online (see my CV for more information). I am also an avid movie-goer and I could never turn down an opportunity to see a good opera, musical, play, or ballet (on stage or screen)! I recently saw Spamalot in London and would recommend it to anyone who appreciates the high art (or lunacy - the jury is still out on that one) that is Monty Python!

I've also recently rediscovered all seven of Sierra's King's Quest games and all six Space Quest games for Windows XP, along with Sierra's (Vivendi's) version of The Hobbit.  Besides being a source of nostalgia, these games are all still incredibly, ridiculously fun to play! :-)
