How
research will help me to achieve my goals after I graduate
Research is the
foundation of my aspirations. My dream is to be part of a network of living
laboratories, working with a community of “research farms’ who explore the impacts
of human activity. We would try to develop protocol and methods of monitoring
which accurately detect change that compromises the integrity of natural
systems on which we rely. All systems are unique and so the problem becomes
quite complex when considering individual circumstances. Protocol would have to
be flexible, adaptable, and mimic the organic flow of the system it tries to
explain. Another major component of research would be to explore and test
sustainable methods of creating energy, building housing, managing waste,
producing food and enriching quality of life. Natural systems are a closed
loop, and so we would seek to imitate these processes. The main thing is to
explore ideas, try them out, test them objectively, assess the results, perhaps
alter the idea and then try it again. This is essentially the application of
the scientific method, combining a diverse community of sustainability-oriented
disciplines.
