Classroom vs. Standardized
Assessment
- Standardized testing brought science and research to
educational assessment.
- But, drawbacks include:
- seeing tests as the most important method of
assessment
- seeing students as the object of assessment
- seeing teacher assessments as less valid
- not providing helpful results to teachers
The purposes of classroom and standarized tests are different.
Classroom assessment can be integrated with instruction, can be a
learning experience, and can provide valuable feedback to both the
teacher and the student.
