Classroom vs. Standardized Assessment

  1. Standardized testing brought science and research to educational assessment.
  2. But, drawbacks include:
    1. seeing tests as the most important method of assessment
    2. seeing students as the object of assessment
    3. seeing teacher assessments as less valid
    4. not providing helpful results to teachers

The purposes of classroom and standarized tests are different. Classroom assessment can be integrated with instruction, can be a learning experience, and can provide valuable feedback to both the teacher and the student.
