frisbee golf

Origins....

The modern frisbee was invented in 1964 by Ed Headrick, and about a decade later the same man patented the first

disc golf basket. The first frisbee golf course opened in Oak Grove Park, (Pasadena, California) and was an instant success.

And in 1976, Ed Headrick started up the Professional Disc Golf Association. Today the PDGA has more than 20,000 members

who live and play in more than twenty countries on five continents around the world. The PDGA writes the rules for disc

golf and is a source of information about the sport.

How to play....

The object of the game is to get the frisbee from the tee into the basket in the least amount of throws. The baskets

are generally about 200-500 feet away from the tee, and most holes are par 3 to par 5. In most tournaments and league

play, all hole are considered par 3, no matter how far away they are. Simple enough huh?

Courses....

In Gainesville there are two courses. The most popular being at Northside park, on 34th ST. across from the Highway
Patrol Station. And the other being at Lake Wauburg on UF's property. If you don't live in Gainesville, most likely you
have a course near you. For a listing of disc golf course in the U.S. check out the list here.
