Description of Assignment: I created an Internet Safety
Plan for the classroom. The plan has a component for students and parents
and includes references to other credible sources.
The section for students included the following:
-
rules/guidelines for the class (anything added to the
school's acceptable use policy)
-
how students should report unacceptable/questionable material
-
consequences for violating the school/class acceptable
use policy
The section for parents included the following:
-
why the use of the Internet is worth the risks
-
the steps I will take to keep parents informed about the
use of the Internet in the classroom
-
the steps I will take to bring about a "comfort" level
for parents with respect to the use of the Internet in the classroom
Rationale: This illustration demonstrates professional
written communication between teacher and the parents/guardians of the
students. Particularly, this internet safety plan fosters cooperation
between parents and teacher which improves the educational experiences
at the school. Parents are informed of educational benefits and potentials
risks of using the internet in the classroom, but are encouraged to allow
their child's participation and inform the teacher of any questions or
concerns they might have.
