FTTH Network Simulation using Various Tiers of Service

With the global trend of increasing network speeds, and the competition of service providers providing access to the internet as well as video and voice communications, the need for a faster medium is of higher demand. Our research would be to analyze the networking potential of fiber optics in a neighborhood.

OPNET provides us with a means to conduct simulations of a modeled neighborhood (approximately 50 homes, with each home being a node) to see how much demand they would put on a neighborhood switch, or group of switches. We are analyzing varying tiers of service (1, 5, 10, 100Mb/s), and how they affect the performance of the switch nodes.
