I Love to Run!

Running with my mom, 1997

Running makes you happier and healthier

My family has been going on runs together since I was little. My mom ran track in high school and passed the habit on to my sisters and me. I think it's the best form of exercise. Not only is it a great cardio workout, but running forces you to use nearly all your muscles at the same time. For example, don't be surprised if your arms and chest, not just your legs, are sore after a really long run.

Something to look forward to...

I always try to keep my running exciting so I don't get bored with it. One of the best ways I've found to do that is by finding out about races in the area. There are so many 5k's held in Gainesville, so knowing that there's a race coming up makes you want to run and train even harder. There are also plenty of races held in Jacksonville, Orlando, and Tampa. Many of them are longer than 5k (or 3.2 miles).

The ultimate challenge, one that I haven't tried to tackle yet, is to train for a marathon, or even a half-marathon. A little known fact is that a typical marathon training regimen will only have you running the full 26.2 miles once during your training, so it really helps you build up your endurance and ability before the big day. Disney World holds a marathon every year, and there is a Brest Cancer Awareness marathon every year in Jacksonville, just to name a few.
