The Classical Guitar was believed to be originated in the ancient Near East(Babylonia). In Egypt and Rome, the instruments had features that could be the catalyst of the guitar. The Guitarra Morisca was brought by the Moors. But, the Guitarra Latina is thought to be the type intrinsic in the modern guitar. |
During the 15th century, four-double strings instrument became popular. However during the 16th century they were replaced by five double string guitar, described as vihuela during the time of Luis Milan, Rizzio guitar from France, chitarra battente from Italy. The most important factor in the development of the guitar was the 6th string during the 18th century. Italian composers wrote a substantial number of works and, like the guitarists and even guitar makers, traveled widely. |
During the 19th century, changes in social conditions and improved means of transportation spreaded the knowledge of the guitar. Guitar music thrived in 19th century Spain. During the 20th century, the revolutionary technological progress and the development of mass media communications and faster, more efficient modes of transportation are responsible for the tremendous popularity of the guitar. |
